The migraine tracker you can use during a migraine
Umbra logs an attack from Siri, the Action button or a widget, so you never have to look at a bright screen with a migraine. It dims itself while the attack lasts. And when you have a few weeks of entries, it turns them into a PDF your doctor can read in two minutes.
For iPhone and iPad, iOS 18 and later.
How Umbra works
Every screen was built against one question: does this still work when your head hurts and the screen is too bright?
Say it, press it, or tap it
"Hey Siri, log a migraine in Umbra." Or press the Action button, tap the home or lock screen widget, or the button in Control Center. The attack starts with the current time. You have not opened the app.
The app goes dark on its own
Crisis mode switches on when an attack starts: a dimmed palette with no bright white, high contrast, big buttons, and type that scales all the way up. A Live Activity on the lock screen has one job: end the attack.
Add the details when you can
Intensity on the 1 to 10 scale your doctor uses, symptoms, pain type and location, triggers, medication with dose and time, and free notes. Aura, prodrome and postdrome each get their own time. Symptom days without pain count too.
Take the report to your appointment
Pick a date range and Umbra renders a PDF on your phone: frequency, duration, intensity, medication, time of day and your MIDAS score. AirDrop it, print it, or hand over the phone. It never touches a server.
What is free, and what Pro is for
Everything that produces the data is free. Pro is the part you take to your appointment.
Free, for good
No time limit, no entry cap, no trial that runs out.
- Log attacks from Siri, the Action button, widgets, Control Center and the Live Activity
- Crisis mode, automatic or by hand
- Every detail: intensity 1 to 10, symptoms, pain type and location, triggers, phases, notes
- Medication log with name, dose and time, plus doses this week and days with medication this month, always visible
- Symptom days without pain, for vestibular and chronic migraine
- History and calendar, edit or delete any entry, year view and patterns
- MIDAS questionnaire and score, with an optional reminder every three months
- iCloud sync through your own Apple account, and CSV export of everything
Umbra Pro
Monthly or yearly subscription, or a one-time purchase that is exactly that: pay once, keep it.
- Doctor report as PDF: pick a date range and get charts, a medication summary and your MIDAS score, ready to hand over
- Medication windows: a minimum gap between doses and your own weekly or daily limit for each medication, with a heads-up before you cross it
Prices are shown in the App Store in your local currency. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled in your Apple account settings; the terms have the details.
Four places Umbra never sells you anything
Upsell inside a health app is the complaint people write most often. These are rules, not preferences.
- Not in crisis mode. While an attack is on, no paywall, no banner, no "upgrade" button. Nothing bright and nothing that asks.
- Not in a notification. Umbra sends a MIDAS reminder if you ask for one and a medication overuse notice if you set a limit. Neither mentions Pro. Ever.
- Not while you are logging. No interstitial between the symptoms step and the medication step. The flow is the flow.
- Not in front of your history. Your entries are yours. Nothing you have logged is ever locked behind a purchase.
Private by architecture, not by promise
A migraine diary is medical data. Umbra was built so that there is nothing to leak.
No account, no email
There is nothing to sign up for. Open the app and log. Umbra never asks who you are.
No Umbra server
Your entries live on your iPhone. If iCloud sync is on, they also live in your own iCloud, in Apple's private database, where nobody at Umbra can read them.
No analytics on health data
No ads, no tracking, no third-party SDK that touches your entries. The App Store privacy label reads "Data Not Collected".
The report stays on your phone
The PDF is rendered on the device and handed to the share sheet. It is not uploaded, not emailed from a server, not kept anywhere but where you send it.
Export or erase, in one tap
Everything as CSV, from Settings, whenever you want. Or delete all of it. No support ticket, no waiting period.
One exception, named
RevenueCat keeps track of whether Pro is active. It receives an anonymous ID and Apple's transaction data, never your health entries. That is the whole list.

Coming soon to the App StoreFrequently asked questions
What is the fastest way to log a migraine on an iPhone?
Not opening an app. Umbra registers an attack from Siri ("Hey Siri, log a migraine in Umbra"), from the Action button, from a home or lock screen widget, or from a Control Center button. The attack starts with the current time; the details can wait until the screen is bearable again.
Can I log a migraine with Siri?
Yes. Umbra ships App Shortcuts, so "Log a migraine in Umbra" and "End the migraine in Umbra" work with Siri as soon as the app is installed, with no setup. The phrases exist in English, German, French, Spanish and Italian.
What is crisis mode?
A version of the whole interface for when your head hurts: a dimmed palette with no bright white, high contrast, big touch targets, and Dynamic Type all the way up to the largest accessibility sizes. It turns on by itself when an attack starts and can be turned on by hand in Settings. Nothing sells you anything while it is on.
Is Umbra free, or is there a subscription?
Logging is free and stays free: attacks, symptoms, medication, crisis mode, history, calendar, MIDAS, insights, iCloud sync and CSV export. Umbra Pro adds the PDF doctor report and medication windows. It is sold as a monthly or yearly subscription, or as a one-time purchase for people who would rather not subscribe. See what is in each.
What does the doctor report include?
You pick a date range and Umbra produces a PDF with attack frequency, duration and intensity, the medication you took, your MIDAS score and grade, and time-of-day patterns. It is rendered on your iPhone and handed to the share sheet, so you can AirDrop it, print it or email it yourself. It never goes through a server.
What is a MIDAS score?
MIDAS (Migraine Disability Assessment) is a five-question questionnaire about the last three months that neurologists use to grade how much migraine gets in the way of work, home and social life, from grade I (little or none) to grade IV (severe). Umbra includes the questionnaire, calculates the score, puts it on the report, and can remind you every three months so it is current at your next appointment. It describes disability; it is not a diagnosis.
Can I log symptoms without a headache?
Yes. Umbra has symptom days without pain, for vestibular migraine, aura without headache and chronic migraine, and logs aura, prodrome and postdrome as separate phases with their own times. Every entry also has a free notes field.
Where is my migraine data stored?
On your iPhone, and, if iCloud sync is on, in your own iCloud through Apple's private database. There is no Umbra account and no Umbra server, so nobody at Umbra can read your entries. You can export everything as CSV or delete everything from Settings at any time. Read the privacy policy.
Does Umbra track weather or barometric pressure?
No. Umbra records what you tell it: triggers, symptoms, medication and timing. It does not fetch weather data, does not predict attacks and does not diagnose. If you notice a pattern in your history, that is something to bring to your doctor.
Which devices does Umbra support?
iPhone and iPad running iOS 18 or later. The Live Activity, Control Center button and Action button need the hardware that supports them; the Action button is on iPhone 15 Pro and later.
